In Chinese legend, there was an evil creature named Nian(年). On the first day of the year, Nian would be awaken from its year long sleep, and eat very living creatures it can find. People lived in fear of this beast, and locked themselves up on the date that Nian woke up. Until one year, there comes an elder, who turned out to be a god to help people to protect themselves from Nian. He taught that the creature was afarid of red colour and loud noise. Ever since then, people scared away the monster by wearing red clothes, decorating their house with red colour, and making louse noise with music and fireworks. In Chinese, people generally use the term "Guo-Nian (过年)" for New Year, which means overcome Nian. 28th of this month is Chinese New Year. We wish you have good health, good luck and much happiness.
